Saturday, June 28, 2025 FAQs for Apprentices in Manitoba Newsletters Construction Question #1: Does the Government of Canada offer separate EI for apprentices? All apprentices will receive an email from the government which contains an overview about their technical training. It will include a document called “Important Information for Apprentices.” It is important that you review both the email and its attachment. Apprenticeship Manitoba also offers an orientation session to apprentices to explain the intake process. Dates and times will be indicated at the bottom of the email that you received. We strongly encourage you to attend this orientation session. The technical training email will contain EI information. If an apprentice is applying for EI, eligibility will be determined based on banked insurable hours. The Service Canada website also explains how insurable hours are counted and used. Question #2: Will I still get benefits if I go back to school? Coverage is dependent on how many hours you have already accumulated. Please call our Benefits team at 1-800-463-2522 to determine when your coverage ends and how to self-pay. Question #3: What is the status of my application? Typically, it takes six to eight weeks for Apprenticeship Manitoba to process your application. You will receive a letter pertaining to your contract start date through mail once the application has been processed.
