Executive Hotels Employees Ratify New Contract Providing Largest Wage Increases in Their History

Vancouver—Employees of the Executive Hotels and Resorts chain in the Vancouver area recently ratified a new four-year collective agreement providing them with the largest wage increases in their history.

The employees are represented by Service, Health, Manufacturing, and Allied Workers Union, CLAC Local 501.

Housekeeping and maintenance staff will see a 15 percent increase in the first year of the contract, with front desk staff receiving an 11 percent increase. Other classifications will see immediate increases of between five and six percent. In addition, employees will see over six percent increases in total over the remaining three years of the contract. Increases to employer contributions to employees’ pension plan were also negotiated along with a greater share of tips for the banqueting staff.

“This was a difficult round of bargaining,” says Don Mundy, CLAC representative. “Coming out of the pandemic, the hotels were full again. Staff shortages throughout the industry made it difficult for the company to retain staff, and everyone knew large wage increases were needed.”

Approximately 300 Local 501 members work in four different facilities under the Executive Hotels brand, all within a half hour of downtown Vancouver.
