Embracing a New Perspective

Struggling with addiction? Local 68 member Edwin Ealey has some advice: reach out to CLAC’s Alcohol and Drug Case Management (ADCM) Team

Edwin Ealey was struggling with addiction when he realized he needed to get help. So he reached out to CLAC’s ADCM Team.

Edwin graciously agreed to share his experience using this CLAC service. In doing so, he hopes that fellow members who are struggling may be inspired to also seek help from the team.

“Following the loss of my mother in 2023, my struggle with addiction prompted me to reach out to my supervisor, who suggested contacting CLAC’s Alcohol and Drug Case Management Team. Miranda O’Krane, subsequently my case manager, adeptly facilitated the process, making it remarkably smooth despite the existing challenges.

“Within a short span, I engaged in a Zoom call with a psychiatrist who determined the most suitable treatment centre. Less than a week later, I found myself at TWC [Together We Can], a 12-step-based facility closely aligned with unions.

“The treatment proved exceptionally beneficial, providing support in areas such as structure, relapse prevention, daily group sessions, and trauma and clinical counselling. I wholeheartedly recommend 12-step-based treatment centres to anyone willing to invest in their recovery.

“While attaining sobriety is achievable during treatment, the true journey commences upon completion. To ensure my triumph over this battle, I’ve devised a comprehensive aftercare plan encompassing a daily routine, regular meetings, sponsor communication, self-care, counselling, assisting others, and engaging in service work.

“Throughout this process, I had weekly phone meetings with Mark Corapi, my CLAC representative, whose unwavering support and guidance have been invaluable. I express profound gratitude to Miranda and Mark for the assistance received. I eagerly anticipate what the future holds and embrace a newfound perspective on life.

“Thank you, CLAC!”
