Covid-19 Basic Must-Knows

Getting paid. . . . If you have to miss work during the pandemic, there are some options

If you contract Covid-19 while at work, you may be eligible for workers compensation. Visit wcb.mb.ca or phone 1-855-954-4321 or email wcb@wcb.mb.ca.

If you are sick with Covid-19 (and are not eligible for WCB) or have to isolate, you can apply for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB). Visit the CRSB website for information (canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/benefits/recovery-sickness-benefit).

Refusing Unsafe Work

It is your employer’s responsibility to mitigate (lessen) the risks of Covid-19. It is also your right to refuse unsafe work, but there is a procedure to follow, outlined below:

Step 1 – Express your concern to your supervisor

Step 2 – Express your concern to your Workplace Safety and Health Committee (non-manager representative).

Note: If you are having a problem contacting your Workplace Safety and Health Committee representative, contact your CLAC steward or representative.

Step 3 – As a last resort, contact the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health branch to have an inspector look at the situation.
