CLAC Training – Ontario Corner

Apprenticeship Information Online

Are you interested in learning more about apprenticeship in your province and what CLAC can do to help its member apprentices?

The CLAC website has been updated with more CLAC apprenticeship program information and helpful links to information about the apprenticeship system in your province.

Check out clac.ca/apprentice for general information on how to become an apprentice, as well as member reimbursement/bursary programs and eligibility requirements.

Once you log into myCLAC.ca, you can check out the new My Apprenticeship tab for further information about and application forms for CLAC’s provincial apprenticeship reimbursement/bursary programs, CLAC scholarships, the Frank Kooger Skills Canada Award, and the Matthew Manuel Memorial Award.

New Way to Track Training in Ontario

The Ministry of Labour (MOL) has implemented a new certification management system that uses software called SkillsPass. CLAC members can now quickly and easily access and print their Working at Heights (and Joint Health and Safety Committees) training records online and on their smartphone, 24/7. The MOL is no longer printing and mailing these certification cards.

After successfully completing a CLAC Working at Heights course (full day, blended, or refresher), you will receive an email notification from noreply@myskillspass.bluedrop.io stating that your account is ready to be set up so you can access your records. The email includes a link to the SkillsPass website and further instructions on how to set up your account and access your records. If you do not see the email in your inbox, please check your junk folder.

Pre-Apprenticeship Leadership Award Winners

CLAC is proud to partner with the Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute (PAT) to promote the trades and provide training to those interested in the trades. PAT runs a number of pre-apprenticeship programs at its two campuses in Ontario—one of which is located in the CLAC Cambridge Member Centre.

As part of this partnership, CLAC awards a Leadership Award to one member of each graduation class. PAT instructors choose the winners based on their employability score, which includes attendance, participation, personality, time management, work site awareness, health and safety, and grades. The winner receives recognition, a new hard hat, and a gift card to the CLAC store.

Congratulations to Darren Harpur, who completed the Combined Refrigeration and GAS3 program on February 21, 2019. Darren won this award for showing himself to be a a self-motivated individual who stays focussed on the task at hand and uses class time constructively.

Congratulations New Journeypersons!
