Sunday, August 25, 2024 CLAC Training, Apprenticeship, and Jobs Services We’re here to serve you! Newsletters Ontario Construction Over the past year and a half, CLAC’s Ontario member services have changed and expanded as we’ve added new programs, new people, and new processes to our teams. All of us have brought many new things to the table, which has allowed us to commit even more to supporting you and your fellow members as much as we possibly can. However amazing these changes are, the growth has happened fast, which leaves room for a lot of confusion when it comes to what supports are available to you. Consider this article as a simple guide of who we are and what we do for you. CLAC Training With six member centres across Ontario, the CLAC Training Team ensures that you have access to the training that you need. • 200+ in-class and online courses to ensure that you’re certified on the job, to help you advance your career, and to support your needs and personal development. • Most courses are free for CLAC members whose employer contributes to the training fund. • All Ontario members have a designated training coordinator who can work with them to find dates and locations for courses that work for their specific needs. If you have any questions about the training courses that we offer or would like to get in contact with your training coordinator, email us at ontraining@clac.ca. Course Spotlight: Supervisor Micro-Certification Program (SMCP) SMCP consists of six instructor-led core modules that empower supervisors with the skills to be people-centric leaders rather than simply task-focused managers. This results in safer workplaces, better communication, reduced disruptive conflict, and increased productivity. This is a national CLAC program, and we welcome everyone from apprentices and general labourers to site forepersons and office staff. The program is free for members whose employer contributes to the training fund and is $850 total for nonmembers. For more information about SMCP, please email us at supervisor@clac.ca. Ontario Apprenticeship The Ontario Apprenticeship Team helps support employers and member apprentices as they progress through trade school and complete their certificate of qualification (CofQ). Member Support • Apprenticeship pathway support – We help support your registration with your employer/sponsor and provide you with our online learning space that has answers and support for your journey from Level 1 (Basic) all the way to the completion of your CofQ. • Trade school tuition reimbursement – We reimburse member apprentices 100 percent of apprenticeship trade school tuition fees (standardized fees set by the MLITSD based on the guideline of $10/day). If your final grade is 80 percent or higher, you also receive a $100 bonus. • Mentorship – We provide personalized, one-on-one support with a journeyperson who can walk with you through the everyday stressors of apprenticeships. Meetings with a mentor can be scheduled at your own convenience by emailing mentor@clac.ca. If you have questions or would like to know more about our apprenticeship supports, email us at ONapprenticeship@clac.ca. Employer Support Through our Group Sponsor Program, we help support you as you take on apprentices and ensure that you receive the maximum value from your hard work. We provide » recruitment and assessment activities; » financial guidance to maximize government grants and incentives; » relief from the administrative burden that navigating the apprenticeship pathway can take, including support navigating Skilled Trades Ontario, MLITSD, and the network of Ontario trade schools. The Group Sponsor Program is not mandatory and is dependent on your company and apprentices’ needs. All levels of apprentices can be supported through this program—not just new apprentices! To learn more about how this program can benefit you, please contact us at ONgroupsponsorship@clac.ca. Ontario Jobs The Ontario Jobs Team helps to support everyone—from CLAC members to public applicants—by connecting you with CLAC-signatory employers who are looking for workers with your skill set. This program is free to use and works as a network to ensure that you are taken care of when you need work. What do we need from you? • A completed intake form • Current resume » WHMIS 2015 (full or refresher) completed within the last year (AIX safety certificates are not accepted) • Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps • Working at Heights (full or refresher) Note: All course fees are the responsibility of the applicant if they need to obtain or refresh any jobs program certification requirement. Once the above requirements are met, we contact the applicant and conduct a prescreen interview before they are added to the applicant list. This list goes out biweekly to employers that are looking for workers. What does this mean for employers? • Dozens of prescreened, qualified candidates to choose from • A biweekly list of candidates and individual applicant promotion • Recruitment support—we’re here to help! Keep us up to date on your recruitment needs. • Retention support—let our team know if there are any layoffs or changes to your team. If you have any questions about our Ontario Jobs Program, or would like to know more, please email us at ONjobs@clac.ca. Summary We are here to support you! Whether you are looking to get certified, need help prepping for trade school, or looking for work, we’ve got your back. It’s our job to care about your job, and we want to help as much as possible.
