Thursday, September 8, 2022 CLAC Prairies Director to Chair Alberta Premier’s Council on Skills The council is part of a plan to overhaul postsecondary education in Alberta to better align with the employment market Guide Magazine News Newsletters Alberta Local 63 CLAC is pleased to congratulate Dennis Perrin, CLAC prairies director, on his appointment as chair of the Premier’s Council on Skills in Alberta. The council is made up of 11 industry leaders from various fields, including construction, energy, agriculture, and tourism and serves as an advisory board to Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides. It will review government policy on postsecondary education, specifically targeting sectors facing a shortage of workers. The creation of the council is part of a larger plan to overhaul postsecondary education in Alberta to better align with the employment market, which is particularly facing a shortage of skilled trades workers. "I am honoured to be a member of the Premier's Council on Skills,” says Perrin. “The important work done by this body will help ensure the fulfillment of current and future skills needs in our province, while providing high paying employment opportunities to Albertans.” Dennis Perrin has almost two decades of experience representing workers in the construction and resource sectors. He joined CLAC as a representative in Edmonton in 2004 and served members throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan before becoming CLAC’s Prairies director. He has been involved in number of key negotiations in the construction and resource sectors and served as a member of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board.
