Thursday, May 4, 2023 CLAC Foundation Welcomes New Partner in Winnipeg Guide Magazine News Catching a bus to training or to a new job can be a barrier for job seekers with no money and no car of their own—and so can the need for expensive preemployment documentation. That’s where the CLAC Foundation comes in, providing $10,250 for transportation services and $4,725 for documentation needed to land certain jobs in a one-year partnership recently approved by its board of directors. The funding was provided to new partner Opportunities for Employment (OFE), a nonprofit in Winnipeg that offers free employment services designed to connect job seekers with employers. Over the years, OFE has evolved as an innovative hub to develop and test new employment development practices, designed to improve labour market success and quality of life for undertrained and low-income job seekers. Since its founding 25 years ago, more than 2,000 people find work every year with OFE’s help. The transportation funding will allow 150 marginalized job seekers to attend employment programming and job interviews with the goal of securing long term, meaningful employment. The documentation funds will support 50 OFE clients in acquiring a series of police checks required for their direct support worker employment applications. “These tangible supports will be very meaningful for our participants,” says Colleen Penner, OFE director of programming. “Our staff will also be thrilled to be able to supply these much-needed items to our job seekers. This type of funding provides resources where gaps exist in other funding models.” For more information on the CLAC Foundation, check out clacfoundation.ca.
