Tuesday, November 3, 2020 CLAC Delivers Mental Health First Aid Training CLAC is asking employers to support at least one CLAC member serving as a worker health and safety representative or Joint Health and Safety Committee member to attend without loss in pay Newsletters Ontario Construction Ontario Emergency Services Ontario Healthcare Mental health has emerged as one of the most important issues in COVID-19-impacted workplaces. For the well-being of every organization and, more importantly, the well-being of each employee, it is imperative that every employer be equipped to identify mental health issues in the workplace as early as possible. The Mental Health Commission of Canada developed a popular training program called mental health first aid (MHFA). CLAC believes strongly in this program and is now able to offer this training as an online and distance learning course. To remove financial barriers to attendance, CLAC is asking employers to support at least one CLAC member serving as a worker health and safety representative or Joint Health and Safety Committee member to attend without loss in pay. For workplaces without a health and safety representative, we encourage a union steward to attend. CLAC is covering the cost of the course. As an extra measure to remove financial barriers to attendance, for employers who find it difficult to financially support a health and safety worker-member participant, CLAC will provide an hourly wage cost reimbursement to the employer of 8 hours, to a maximum of $300. Please contact your CLAC representative for more information. What Is Mental Health First Aid?
