Certifications and Ratifications

Local 63 is proud to welcome new members as a result of new organizing and certifications from the labour board.

Certifications

Eiffage Innovative Canada Inc.

Operators, ironworkers, and pipefitters employed by Eiffage recently voted to join the local. Eiffage specializes in heavy civil bridge work. The new members are currently working on a job in Peace River.

Rozen Steel Works Inc.

In November 2021, employees of this company, based in Spruce Grove, joined the local, with a strong majority voting in favour. Rozen Steel Works is a steel fabrication company with approximately 85 employees in two locations, a structural fabrication shop in Nisku and a pipe fabrication shop in Spruce Grove.

Ratifications

Integral Energy Services Ltd.

Members employed by Integral Energy Services Ltd. ratified a collective agreement providing them with wage increases and other improvements. Local 63 has represented the 155 members since 2006. The Airdrie-based company is CLAC’s largest industrial-construction single source electrical contractor in Alberta.

About 25 members are working in Calgary on commercial projects, and the remaining 130 all work in the Wood Buffalo region at multiple sites including CNRL Horizon, CNRL Albian Sands, IOL Kearl, Keyera Cheecham, and Suncor Base Plant.

In total, 126 ballots were cast with 75.4% of members voting in favour of the new 26-month contract. Wages for members working in Calgary increased by about 1.5% to $37/hr. for journeypersons. Each level of apprentice will also receive an additional 5% increase (55, 65, 75, and 85% of the journeyperson rate).

Wages in the Wood Buffalo region will remain status quo ($42.42/hr.), with wage reviews scheduled for June 2022, November 2022, and November 2023.

Members working at CNRL Horizon and CNRL Albian will see a 6.2% wage increase plus employer retirement contributions will increase by 6.2% as of January 1, 2022, and an additional 4.02% (minimum) as of July 1, 2022.

Other improvements include Integral adopting the new CLAC Training program as of January 1, which will give members greater access to many training courses and reduce the administrative burden for the employer. This was very well received by the membership.

Members will also move from hour-bank to direct-pay benefits, a positive development for them since most are with the employer long term.

Rozen Steel Works Inc.

The new members employed by Rozen recently ratified their first agreement, with 93% voting in favour. The 2-year contract provides competitive wage schedules for both the pipe and structural shops, with a significant number of members seeing raises.

Members will also receive retirement contributions for the first time and increased benefits coverage in 2022 and 2023. The company will also contribute to the union’s training fund, providing members with access to training opportunities.
