Cedarcroft Retirement Community Employees Achieve Significant Gains after Joining CLAC
Oshawa, ON—Employees of Cedarcroft Retirement Community in Oshawa voted overwhelmingly in favour of their first collective agreement with CLAC. The four-year contract provides them with significant wage increases and other monetary improvements.
Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304, assumed representation responsibilities for Cedarcroft employees after a successful displacement application from Unifor on July 8, 2021.
The new contract provides all classifications with an 11 percent increase over the term. In addition, CLAC was able to negotiate new weekend- and night-shift premiums, an increase in matching RRSP contributions, a new in-lieu of benefits for part-time employees, and a significant increase to vision care coverage.
“The members working at Cedarcroft could not be more pleased,” says Rocio Rembala, a member of the union bargaining committee. “In under seven months, CLAC accomplished more for the employees than Unifor did in the previous nine years.”
