Tuesday, February 15, 2022 Building Communities Winners! Newsletters Alberta Local 63 Twice per year (June and December), CLAC awards donations of $1,000, $1,500, or $2,500 to up to 15 local causes nominated by members. All causes and amounts are selected at random from qualified nominations. Causes nominated by three Local 63 members won in the December 2021 draw: Kinistino Hockey Club, Northern Lights Medical Ventures, and Prairie Christmas. Randy Hanson (Willbros Mine Services L.P.) nominated Kinistino Hockey Club, in Kinistino, Saskatchewan, which received a $1,500 donation. “Kinistino Hockey Club is comprised of a group of volunteers that help keep kids active in the sport of hockey,” says Randy. “Minor hockey provides an outlet for children and youth to keep active, gain confidence, and learn to work with others. A successful minor hockey club engages the community by bringing people together and encouraging safe outdoor social gatherings in our small town. This donation will go toward jerseys and equipment for the club.” Cayleb Reiger (Borea Construction ULC.) nominated Northern Lights Medical Ventures, in Sherwood Park, Alberta, which received a $1,000 donation. “Northern Lights Medical Ventures provides a great opportunity for youth to learn about first aid and gain further interest in a future career in the medical world,” says Cayleb. “The advisors include medical professionals, such as EMRs, primary care, and advanced care paramedics who help train and supervise our youth members. The organization is aiming to raise $2,500, and this generous donation goes directly to support our unique program as we continue to provide learning and volunteer opportunities for our members.” Steven Wall (Ledcor Group) nominated Prairie Christmas, in Warman, Saskatchewan, which received a $1,500 donation. “My wife, Jolene Wall, and a friend started Prairie Christmas because they realized how lonely seniors were in long term care homes due to COVID-19 restrictions,” says Steven. “They decided to take it on themselves to raise and get donations to provide gift baskets for seniors in the local care home. Jolene did all of this selfless work while going through her own breast cancer battle, which she has successfully defeated! One hundred percent of donations received will go to purchasing gifts and other services for residences at long term care homes to provide some Christmas cheer.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
