Building Communities

Sock Saviours has received a $1,500 donation from CLAC as part of the union’s Building Communities program.

The organization, started by high school student Leesha Krahn, distributes unique care packages to the less fortunate members of the community.

She was nominated by her mother, Georgette Krahn, who is a member of Retail, Healthcare, and Service Employees Union, CLAC Local 301, employed by Save-On-Foods at the western grocery chain’s Wye Road location in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

“Anyone who doubts that young people can make a positive difference should be inspired by the efforts of Leesha, a 15-year-old student who has turned a school project into a mission to help those less fortunate,” says Georgette.

“With the help of friends and family, she has created Sock Saviours, which are little care packages of personal hygiene products, gum, playing cards, bus tickets, and McDonald’s gift cards stuffed into socks. CLAC’s donation will help Leesha reach her goal of making 150 Sock Saviours.”

The Lacombe Community Watch Association Society was awarded a $1,000 donation from CLAC as part of the union’s Building Communities program. The organization was nominated by Thelma Ten Hove, who is a member of Retail, Healthcare, and Service Employees Union, CLAC Local 301, employed by the Lacombe Foundation.
