Brant Centre Employees Vote Overwhelmingly in Favour of New Contract

Burlington, ON—Employees working at Brant Centre Long Term Care Residence have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new three-year collective agreement. The contract was negotiated by Niagara Health and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 302.

Highlights of the contract include 1.4 percent wage increases with special adjustments for registered practical nurses, personal support workers, cooks, dietary aides, and those in laundry and housekeeping. There was also an increase to the weekend premium and important language changes to scheduling provisions.

“Negotiations were thorough and tricky, but the end result was promising,” says Dennis Grajo, member of the bargaining committee. “We were committed to fighting for increased wages, and we look forward to much-deserved increases and catch up in our next round of bargaining.”

“The committee did a terrific job representing the interests of their co-workers to help achieve this settlement,” says Arielle Ross, CLAC representative. “We are pleased that the employer voluntarily agreed to adjustments and changes to our scheduling language. For us, this suggests that the employer believes the employees at Brant Centre are deserving of much-needed wage increases.”
