Saturday, August 28, 2021 Bill 64—What We’ve Heard from You Newsletters Manitoba Local 306 Local 306 represents 610 employees in 6 bargaining units within 2 school division employers in Manitoba, and members are increasingly anxious about the impact of Bill 64. CLAC, with the help of a lobbying firm, has been advocating to the government on behalf of members. Terms of employment and union representation are outstanding issues causing concern. The lack of clarity about the future, paired with anxiety caused in part by the COVID pandemic, is what worries most of our members. Bill 64 leaves questions unanswered. CLAC is concerned about your job security, terms of employment, and working conditions. For example, what will happen to the collective agreement, which members have invested in through the collective bargaining process over many years? Will Bill 64 have implications on assignments, which school members work in, years of service, seniority, vacation accrual, staffing formulas, access to extended health benefits, and workplace culture? Support staff are concerned about how issues will be managed if school divisions are removed and their employer becomes the province. They are already vulnerable to feeling like second-class citizens in the school system compared to the teaching staff and face many workplace risks.
