Members employed by AEL, based in Merritt, ratified a 5-year wage and benefits review of their collective agreement providing them with wage increases of 2%/yr., with traffic controllers receiving a $2/hr. increase in 2019. Employer payments toward the cost of the benefits plan will increase to $1.75/hr. In addition, the boot allowance was increased to $150. The members include equipment operators, mechanics, traffic controllers, labourers, and road forepersons. They have been represented by Local 68 for nearly 20 years. AEL operates out of Merritt, West Kelowna, and Quesnel providing traffic control, snow clearing, and road maintenance services in these areas as well as for the Coquihalla Highway and Highways 5 and 97. Integral Energy Services Ltd. Members employed by Integral unanimously ratified a new 3-year agreement providing wage reviews in years 2 and 3. Integral is an Alberta-based company that provides electrical, instrumentation, and project-management services. JJM Construction Ltd. Members employed by JJM, based in Delta, ratified a new 3-year agreement with 96% voting in favour. The members include heavy equipment operators, welders, mechanics, deck engineers, deck hands, pipe layers, and labourers. The new contract provides them with a 2.5%/yr. wage increase. Benefits coverage will continue for employees on sick leave and for three months after layoff. In addition, the boot allowance was increased to $250 and contract language regarding vacation and expanded leave provisions was improved. JJM Construction performs heavy civil and marine construction. Recent work includes the Annacis Island Waste Water Treatment Plant, Coquitlam UV disinfection plant, emergency bank protection project on the Fraser River, Ridley Island road and rail utility corridor work, as well as other civil projects in the Greater Vancouver Regional District and Vancouver Island. Maple Reinders Construction Ltd. Members employed by Maple Reinders, based in Kelowna and Langley, ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with wage increases of 2%/yr. and a rigger premium. The living-out and meal allowances were increased, and the travel-free zone was reduced to 55 kilometres. Employer payments toward the cost of the benefits plan will increase as well. In addition, premiums for achieving level 2 and level 3 first aid certification were increased. The members include electricians, pipefitters, plumbers, millwrights, carpenters, skilled workers, and crane operators. They have been represented by Local 68 for over 25 years. Maple Reinders performs commercial construction work and builds water and sewage treatment facilities. Recent projects include work in Kelowna, Ashcroft, Lumby, Peachland, and Victoria. Norpac Construction Inc. Members employed by Norpac, based in Kamloops, unanimously ratified a new 3-year agreement providing them with 2% annual wage increases and a new safety boot/safety gear allowance of up to $600/yr. on a 50% cost-sharing basis. In addition, employer payments toward the cost of the benefits plan will increase. The new agreement also provides improvements to overtime and training provisions, transfers and travel time, and stand-by pay. Norpac provides HOH drilling, rock mesh and scaling, and slope stabilization services across BC. Recent projects include Site C, CN Rail site, and various Teck mine sites. Pomerleau Inc. Members employed by Pomerleau, based in Surrey, ratified a new 3-year agreement providing them with 3%/yr. wage increases, 1% matching RSP contribution increase, 8% increase to employer contributions to the benefits plan, safety-gear allowance increases from $150 to $250, shift-premium increases from $3/hr. to $5/hr., and single mid-week night shifts will be paid at a new premium plus double time. Pomerleau performs civil and infrastructure construction, marine works, and heavy industrial construction. Recent work includes on the Admirals/MacKenzie interchange in Victoria, the Forrest Kerr 195 MW run-of-river hydroelectric project on the Iskut River, and multiple civil construction projects in the Greater Vancouver Regional District and Vancouver Island. Speers Construction Inc. Members employed by Speers Construction, based in Revelstoke, unanimously ratified a 3-year agreement providing them with wage increases of 2% over 2 years. Employer contributions to employees’ RSPs will increase to $1.25/hr. in year 3, and employer payments toward the cost of the benefits plan will increase to $1.74/hr., with annual increases. The members include mechanics, equipment operators, labourers, forepersons, and supervisors. They have been represented by Local 68 for 36 years. Speers Construction is primarily involved in road construction and earth works. Recent and current projects include work in the Canal Flats and Revelstoke areas and for Parks Canada and BC Hydro.
