Greater Sudbury Fire Service In January 2025, Local 920 volunteer firefighters with the City of Greater Sudbury met with the employer to begin negotiations on their fourth collective agreement. There has been a lot of energy and engagement from the volunteers surrounding these negotiations, with proposal meetings being extremely well-attended late in 2024. This current negotiation is of particular significance given the firefighter certification deadline is fast approaching on July 1, 2026. Additionally, the recent closure of four volunteer stations in 2024 and early 2025 has prompted the volunteers to prioritize new terms that will help ensure their ability to provide meaningful fire services to the community in the future. We look forward to sharing the outcome of this significant negotiation once they are completed.
