Sunday, August 14, 2022 Bargaining Update Eckville Manor and Lacombe Lodge Newsletters Alberta Local 301 Eckville Manor and Lacombe Lodge are two facilities owned by the Lacombe Foundation and managed by Bethany Group. Members employed here have been with CLAC since 2010. Between the two facilities, over 60 members serve as lodge attendants, housekeepers, cooks, assistant cooks, activity coordinators, maintenance staff, and healthcare aides. Their collective agreement expired on December 31, 2021, and early in 2022, Representatives Juliann Mans and Melanie St. Andrews along with the members of the bargaining committee, Patti and Wannetta from Lacombe Lodge, and Connie and Jolene from Eckville Manor, gathered at the virtual bargaining table with members of Bethany Group’s management team. The group identified some issues through an interest-based approach and worked toward solutions for staffing concerns, including filling vacant shifts and exchanging shifts. The group met for three days over three months and concluded negotiations in May. After some back and forth between the union and the employer, along with their lawyer, a tentative settlement was reached in early August. Ed De Bruyn, who will be representing Eckville Manor going forward, and Juliann brought the tentative settlement to the membership for a ratification vote, held on August 11 and 12. After hearing the details, which included a one percent wage increase, the settlement was voted down, with 79 percent of the membership voting no. The union bargaining committee met to gather feedback from the membership before negotiations resumed in early September.
