Announcement to Ensure Trans Mountain Pipeline Is Built Welcome News to CLAC Members

Project will create over 4,000 jobs during its construction

Vancouver, BC—CLAC’s skilled workforce members received welcome news regarding the future of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project (TMEP), as the federal government announced it will purchase the pipeline to ensure the project is built.

CLAC signatory contractors have been awarded the vast majority of the work on the TMEP, but uncertainty around the project resulted in layoffs earlier this month.

“The announcement is welcome news to our members, especially those who were laid off and are eager to return to work,” says Kevin Kohut, BC director. “The project will create over 4,000 jobs for our members during its construction.”

CLAC members will construct five of seven pipeline spreads, as well as the terminal expansions.

“This project creates significant opportunities for skilled tradespeople—locals, Indigenous peoples, youth, and women,” says Wayne Prins, executive director. “The jobs it will create today and career development for tomorrow will support families and communities for years to come.”

CLAC members will add the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion to a growing list of successfully completed major projects. The union will be working with its signatory contractors to ramp up work on the TMEP.
