Alberta Government’s Boost to Mental Health and Addictions Funding a Step in the Right Direction

Edmonton—CLAC applauds the Alberta government in fulfilling its election promises to boost funding for mental health and addictions and provide continued support for critical healthcare infrastructure projects, such as the Calgary Cancer Centre and Grande Prairie hospital.

In its budget tabled October 24, the government committed $100 million to mental health and addictions programs.

“We are pleased to see the provincial government put energy and resources into such an important area,” says Dennis Perrin, CLAC’s Alberta director. “The growing awareness of mental health challenges and addictions is critical and something that CLAC takes very seriously. The funding boost is a step in the right direction.”

CLAC has invested $100,000 in 2019 to bring mental health first aid training to its members and others in communities across Canada.

“We are committed to working with our members and the public to help those who are struggling with a mental health issue or an addiction,” says Perrin. “Nobody in our society is immune to these challenges.”
