Friday, March 21, 2025 Aecon Employees Secure Yearly Wage Increases with New Contract Locals Local 63 Ratifications Sectors Construction Edmonton—The 490 employees of Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. employed in the company’s mod yard in Sherwood Park, Alberta, voted overwhelmingly in favour of ratifying a 44-month collective agreement providing them with yearly wage increases and other improvements. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63. The union has represented the company’s employees since 2012. The new contract provides employees with 14 percent increases to base wage rates over the term, including an immediate 4.17 percent increase retroactive to March 2, 2025. An additional 4 percent increase takes effect in 2026, 3.85 percent in 2027, and 1.85 percent in 2028. The new contract also provides an increase to matching pension contributions from 2 percent to 2.5 percent effective March 30, 2025. Other improvements include a new policy to address payroll errors, an increase to employer contributions to employees’ benefits plan premiums to ensure coverage, adoption of the union’s new training model providing greater access to training courses and programs, and a $300 increase to tuition reimbursement for apprentices. “The union bargaining committee did an excellent job of ensuring that the concerns and needs of the membership were addressed in negotiations,” says Dan Dykstra, CLAC representative. “This was evidenced by the strong vote in favour of ratification by members, with 84 percent voting in favour. This new agreement secures the wage gains our members were looking for while also addressing other needs.” You might be interested in Shopping for a Union?
