Thursday, February 26, 2026 A New Tool to Safeguard Your Health The Ontario government has launched a registry to help workers track their exposure to hazardous substances Ontario Construction Construction There’s a new way for Ontario workers to take charge of their long term health and safety. The province has rolled out the Occupational Exposure Registry (OER)—a first‑of‑its‑kind online system that helps you track any exposure to hazardous substances like asbestos, silica, lead, or mercury on the job. The OER makes it easy to log details about when and how an exposure happened, along with what safety measures were in place at the time. Each entry creates a downloadable record that can help support medical assessments or future WSIB claims so you’ve got a clear record of your work history if health issues ever arise down the road. This new tool was developed under the Working for Workers Act, 2023, and responds to one of the toughest challenges in workplace health: illnesses that take years to develop after exposure. By helping workers and employers track data and spot exposure trends, the Ontario government hopes to prevent illness before it starts. According to the WSIB, occupational diseases still account for most workplace‑related deaths in the province. The OER is designed to change that by giving everyone—workers, employers, and healthcare providers—better information to make workplaces safer. The Occupational Exposure Registry is now live on the Ontario government’s website. It’s a simple step that can make a big difference in protecting your health, both now and in the years to come.
