Monday, July 29, 2019 CLAC Members Receive Mental Health First Aid Training Employers, stewards, and safety representatives learned how to better support individuals in their workplaces Local 306 Newsletters The Winnipeg Member Centre hosted a two-day Mental Health First Aid course developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada in June. Employers, stewards, and safety representatives from various Local 306 and 152 employers attended and learned how to better recognize and support individuals in their workplaces who are experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. “I attended the course and received certification as a workplace Mental Health First Aid provider,” says Lauren Gervais, a steward at Save-On-Foods Bridgwater store. “The course covered methods of recognizing symptoms of emotional distress, assessment for risk of suicide or harm, as well as the provision of appropriate input and advice if warranted. “I feel empowered and supported by this training, and with these tools, I am prepared to play a productive role in assisting coworkers or members of the public in dealing with emotional distress. It is clear from this orientation that mental health first aid preparation should be a priority to ensure a safe and protected work environment.” Lauren Gervais Previous Next You might be interested in Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026 Ready to Deliver 3 Jun 2026
