Creating a Safe and Respectful Workplace – Supervisor Edition (3 Course Series) | Online

This supervisor training package consists of three courses.

Course 1: Respect in the Workplace Training for Supervisors (Part 1 & 2)

Part 1: Respect in the Workplace

This course helps supervisors recognize respectful and disrespectful workplace behaviour and understand their role in preventing bullying, harassment, and violence. Learners will gain practical strategies to respond to issues early, support employees, and contribute to a safe, productive work environment.

Part 2: Building Your Harassment Prevention Program

The course introduces leaders to the fundamentals of building and maintaining an effective harassment prevention program.

Key topics include:

  • Defining respect and why it matters in the workplace
  • Identifying and responding to disrespectful or abusive behaviour
  • Understanding bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment (including online)
  • Distinguishing performance management from bullying
  • De-escalation strategies and personal safety
  • Canadian laws protecting workers from workplace abuse
  • Steps to building a workplace harassment prevention program, including policy development, reporting, investigations, victim support, and training

Course 2: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Foundations Training

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential to healthy workplace cultures and meeting legal obligations. This foundational course introduces key EDI and human rights concepts, helping learners understand how bias, stereotypes, and prejudice can influence behaviour and workplace outcomes. Participants will build awareness and understanding to support inclusive, respectful work environments.

Key topics include:

  • Core concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Understanding bias, stereotypes, and prejudice and how they impact behaviour
  • Social identity, social location, power, and privilege
  • Systems of oppression and how they affect workplace experiences
  • Types of discrimination and harassment, and applicable human rights legislation

Course 3: Strategies for an Inclusive Workplace

Designed for supervisors and managers, this course focuses on practical strategies to foster inclusiveness, collaboration, and productivity. Learners will explore communication styles, cultural competence, and organizational practices that support accommodation and remove barriers to success.

Key topics include:

  • Promoting inclusiveness among diverse teams
  • Understanding communication styles and their impact on collaboration and productivity
  • Supporting inclusive communication practices
  • Recognizing how organizational flexibility and systems can remove barriers and improve morale
