ZSD Electric Employees Unanimously Ratify First Agreement

Mississauga, ON—Employees of ZSD Electric Inc. have unanimously ratified a first collective agreement.

The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 52, after joining the union in March this year.

The 18 members, who are mainly electricians and telecommunication technicians, will see their wages increase between approximately eight and eleven percent by May 2024. In addition, employees will be enrolled in the CLAC Pension Plan, with the employer contributing five percent in year one, six percent in year two, and seven percent in year three. The employees previously did not have a pension plan.

Other notable additions include enrolment in CLAC’s benefits plan as well as employer contributions to the union’s education and industry fund and construction industry fund. Forepersons will receive a $3 per hour premium and senior forepersons $6 per hour. Employees also will receive a $50 daily food allowance when working on projects requiring an overnight stay.

“The bargaining committee was very prepared and communicated their priorities in a professional manner,” says Randy Parris, CLAC representative. “We had productive bargaining sessions that ultimately resulted in an agreement that matched their priorities and one that the membership was very pleased with.”
