Thursday, May 30, 2024 Winter & Son Drywall Employees Secure Wage Increases with New Contract Locals Local 6 Ratifications Sectors Construction Brantford, ON—Employees of Winter & Son Drywall Ltd., based in Brantford, Ontario, voted 87 percent in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with wage increases and other improvements. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 6. The union has represented the company’s employees for 57 years since being certified by the Ontario Labour Relations Board back in 1967. The new contract provides employees with wage increases ranging from 5.7 to 7.7 percent in the first year, with wage openers scheduled for years two and three. The agreement also includes improvements to bereavement leave, an increase in the mileage rate, enhancements to layoff language, and special wage adjustments to the drywaller rate. “The slowdown in residential construction has definitely impacted bargaining in the sector,” says Sonya Dean, CLAC representative. “The wage increases were the priority for the membership and the union bargaining committee worked hard to ensure that happened.” Winter & Son Drywall provides residential and commercial custom drywall installation services in the Simcoe, Brantford, and Waterford areas.
