Thursday, March 12, 2020 Where Did All the Toilet Paper Go? Blogs By Jayson Bueckert, CLAC Regional Director Hokey Dinah! Where did all the toilet paper go? Now’s a great time to buy a bidet attachment for your toilet! We humans are funny creatures. On the one hand, we can be so logical, thorough, and ready to work together. On the other hand, we pop our heads up from our holes, see danger, panic—and buy all the toilet paper. Who can blame us though? All it takes is a few people thinking ahead about gathering scarce resources and the need to hoard spreads like a virus . . . like a coronavirus. Perhaps one of the most astounding things about the current crisis is how much misinformation there is about cures. Everything from chiropractic cures to smoking marijuana to drinking industrial bleach have been making the rounds on the Internet. Where we choose to get our guidance in times like this really does matter. The World Health Organization (WHO) has its work cut out for it when competing with Facebook memes and fear-mongering media. But trusting in experts in times like these makes the most sense. When it comes to wacky ways to whiten your teeth or how best to get rid of carpet stains, social media reports and disreputable websites are probably innocuous. It is now that we ought to pay close attention to those people whose job it is to keep us safe. As a union, we believe in collective action to promote the health and prosperity of our society. Coming together to fight this virus will take an unprecedented amount of collective action. Let’s keep our wits about us and do the right thing.
