The company prides itself in being a one-stop shop for excavation and concrete work. From operating equipment in numerous sand and gravel pits; to trucking aggregates and concrete; to moving earth and installing services; to forming, pouring, and finishing concrete; to paving, these Local 53 members do it all. “They work together like a well-oiled machine,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. The company, based out of Mt. Carmel, Ontario, was founded by two brothers in 1953—one year after CLAC was founded—and has grown steadily. Currently, approximately 100 Local 53 members are employed by McCann—many of them long-standing employees. “The employees chose CLAC to represent them because they wanted a union that values partnership between employees and employer,” says Ryan. “They wanted a union that could negotiate a fair contract: one that provided for fair improvements while keeping their employer competitive to secure work. “The negotiation process involved lots of discussion and ultimately resulted in a good first collective agreement. As we move forward under this new contract, we will keep the lines of communication open when we experience differences of opinion, which is normal at the beginning of any labour relationship.” Previous Next You might be interested in Strathcona Mechanical Workers Approve New Agreement with Wage and Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026 Ready To Deliver 3 Jun 2026 The Miracle of Many Hands 2 Jun 2026 Velocity Mechanical Workers Secure New Contract with Wage and Benefit Improvements 1 Jun 2026
