Monday, September 10, 2018 Welding Summer Camp Helps Forge Futures Local 63 Newsletters Edmonton youth were at the CLAC Welder Training Facility for a week in July to take part in Mind over Metal, a free welding summer camp sponsored by the CWA Foundation. This was a great opportunity for participants, ages 12 to 16, to try their hand at welding and learn about one of many rewarding careers in the skilled trades. Alberta is facing a skilled trades shortage that will only deepen in the coming years, as up to 20 percent of the current workforce retires. CLAC is committed to helping to fill that gap by promoting the trades and helping to train our province’s next generation of skilled workers. “We hope these students will enjoy learning about welding in a safe manner, get excited about the possible career paths the trades offer, make some new friends, and memories that will last forever,” says camp instructor Dayton Block.
