Wage Increases, Key Contract Provisions Maintained with New Contract for Park Lane Terrace Employees

Paris, ON—Employees of Park Lane Terrace, a 136-bed nursing home in Paris, voted overwhelmingly in favour of a two-year collective agreement providing them with wage increases and other improvements while maintaining key contract provisions.

The agreement was reached between their union, Grand River Valley Health Care Workers Union, CLAC Local 305, and APANS Health Services. The union has represented the 148 employees at Park Lane Terrace for almost 40 years.

The new contract provides them with 1.5 percent annual wage increases over the term as well as improvements to the weekend premium and the introduction of an orientation premium. Employees also maintained sick day pay-out provisions and language regarding dropped shifts, both of which were key priorities heading into negotiations.

“We are pleased that we were able to achieve a settlement that provided for industry norms for wages while not sacrificing some of the unique and beneficial provisions that currently exist for the membership,” says Isobel Farrell, CLAC regional director. “The union’s bargaining committee was steadfast in their pursuit of the members’ priorities.”
