Try a Trade Event

Edvance OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) partnered together with the CLAC Jobs, Training, and Apprenticeship Teams in Ontario to create a Try a Trade event for high school students

This event has allowed us to engage with students, through Edvance, within the independent school board who are interested in learning more about the construction trades. We hosted three events in 2023 and more are scheduled for 2024.

The latest event took place on Friday, November 10, at the Cambridge Member Centre. Over 60 students from schools in the area attended and participated in the three sessions:

Hands-on workshop facilitated by Russell Alder (Bootcamp instructor) where students were able to build a bird house.
CLAC Services presentation facilitated by CLAC Jobs and Apprenticeship, as well as a health and safety presentation by Jeffrey Pickles.
OYAP presentation and obstacle course where students tried out different skills needed for the trades, including a hands-on activity that highlighted sheet metal worker and electrical trades.
