Traugott Building Contractors Employees Unanimously Ratify New Contract

Calgary—Local 63 members employed as carpenters and labourers by Traugott Building Contractors Inc. unanimously ratified a two-year collective agreement providing wage increases and other improvements.

The contract does not include wage increases for 2021 but members will receive consumer price index increases of at least one percent to a maximum of two percent in 2022. In addition, members continue to receive a strong retirement package as well as premiums for night shift work and being a steward. The living-out allowance (LOA) was increased to $125 per day and the partial accommodation allowance to $50 per day.

“This round of bargaining came with the challenges based on the economic climate we are living in today in Calgary,” says Ed De Bruyn, representative. “It was good that we could maintain the wages for the employees for 2021 and secure an increase for 2022. We were also able to increase the LOA and partial accommodation allowances for those members working away from home. Overall, it was a good process, with unanimous approval from the membership.

Traugott Building Contractors works primarily in commercial construction in and around the Calgary and Edmonton areas. Members are currently working on a strip mall in the Trinity Hills area of Calgary and renovating a Walmart store in Northland Mall.
