Trans Mountain Project Decision Delivers Devastating Blow to Workers
Langley, BC—The decision that will delay the Trans Mountain expansion project by the Federal Court of Appeal will have a significant impact on the CLAC members who were working on it and sent home yesterday. The devastating toll on the men, women, and their families who are relying on the income from the construction jobs generated by this project cannot be understated.
“CLAC is disappointed in the decision to overturn what has been a lengthy and rigorous process to get this project off the ground," says Wayne Prins, CLAC executive director. “We encourage and support the federal government in whatever course of action they deem necessary to get this project back on track.”
Beyond the impact to workers on this project, CLAC is also concerned about the impact this will have on future job-creating projects in the resource sector. This decision will undoubtedly weigh heavy as investors contemplate investing in Canada’s resource sector.
The CLAC Jobs Team will be reaching out to members impacted by this decision to try getting them back to work.
