New Training Available in Ontario

WAH Recertification

Since 2015, CLAC has coordinated and delivered nearly 7,000 Working at Heights certificates. Training has occurred across Ontario, from Thunder Bay to Ottawa to Windsor, in both English and French.

Starting in 2018, the CLAC Training Team will connect with workers and employers regarding the three-year expiry of Working at Heights certificates. If CLAC coordinated or facilitated the course, the expiry date is tracked in our system. We are also reaching out to employers regarding certificates that CLAC did not coordinate, and will update our database as we receive that information. Our goal is to provide timely and convenient WAH recertification opportunities across Ontario. The recertification course takes 3.5 hours to complete.

New Courses for 2018

Our course calendar is constantly being updated. Please view the most up-to-date calendar at clac.ca/courses. New courses for 2018 include Traffic Control–Book 7 and Working at Heights recertification. Can’t find a course in your area or on a date that is convenient for you? First Aid for Mental Health

The Cambridge Member Centre hosted our ever-popular Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program in November. The construction industry is becoming more aware of the issue of mental health and safety in the workplace, and we were pleased to see so many construction members in attendance.

The MHFA program is endorsed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and teaches participants the skills they need to help others during a mental health crisis, including understanding stigma, signs and symptoms, effective intervention, and helpful resources. CLAC will be providing more opportunities to take the program in 2018, so look for it in our national calendar.
