Thursday, January 26, 2017 “The Main Thing Is to Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing” Blogs So how are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Do you hate it as much as I do when people ask that question? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the idea of a new year and a fresh start. I love the idea that I have a choice to make this year, the year I need it to be. But I have only quiet resolutions, ones that rest in my heart. Ones I can work on every day, even if—when—I have fallen short the day before. I heard a talk recently about resolutions and how sometimes we get caught up in making new ones every year but forget to keep the main thing, the main thing. The speaker quoted Steven Covey: “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” As we at CLAC move through the new year, are we keeping the main thing, the main thing? CLAC is a union based on Christian social principles. As a union, we are advocates and champions for workplace justice. It’s on that basis that workers choose us and continue to choose us when they are given the chance to go elsewhere. That’s why I love being a rep. I love that the new year can be a reminder to keep our priorities where they need to be. I love that I can look back on the prior year and see what worked and what didn’t. And then make fresh choices for the current year. Together, with my colleagues, our main thing is to deliver top-of-the-line workplace advocacy to Canadian workers. What’s your main thing? Are you sticking to it so far in 2017?
