The End of OCOT

What You Need to Know

The Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) has been wound down as of December 31, 2021, and has been replaced by Skilled Trades Ontario (STO).

5 Things the End of OCOT Means for You

1. Your OCOT membership/classifications will be recognized until they expire and/or until December 31, 2022, at which point they are to be renewed with STO. There will be a three-year renewal after the transition is complete. STO will send you a renewal notice 90 days before the certificate expiry date.

2. Fees – Renewal fees for compulsory C of Q holders are posted at $60.

3. Classifications are being renamed.

• C of Q holder (replaces Journeyperson class)

• p C of Q holder (replaces Journeyperson Candidate class)

• C of A holder (replaces Tradesperson class)

4. C of Q holders and apprentices in compulsory trades must carry proof of qualification at all times and produce them to inspectors if asked. These include

• previously issued C of Q, p C of Q, or RTAs in compulsory trades;

• OCOT membership statements or wallet identification cards (not expired); and

• new STO-issued C of Q, p C of Q, proof of payment for C of Q renewal, or any proof of temporary certification status that is issued by STO (digital or otherwise).
