Employees Unanimously Ratify New Contract Locals Local 6 Ratifications Sectors Construction Brantford, ON—Employees of The Electricians Inc., based in Brantford, Ontario, unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with wage and retirement savings increases and many other improvements. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 6. The union has represented the company’s electricians since March 2017. The new contract provides wage increases that will see the journeyperson rate rise to $40.26 per hour by the end of the term. In addition, contributions to the pension plan will rise to 10 percent, including matching contributions. Vision coverage increases to $350 and life insurance payout to $80,000. The tool and boot allowance increases to $400 and now includes safety glasses. Two paid sick days were introduced, and bereavement leave increases to five days for immediate family and three for extended family. The mileage rate increases to $0.55 per kilometre, and the daily per diem allowance for expenses increases to $50. “The bargaining committee had a clear directive from the membership, and they delivered on every priority,” says Sonya Dean. “The result was the members’ unanimous vote in favour of the contract.” The Electricians Inc. provide electrical services to the residential and industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors of the construction industry, primarily in Brantford and Brant County.
