Monday, May 1, 2017 Thank You Sudbury Volunteer Firefighters News CLAC Local 920 would like to thank all of our volunteer firefighter members in Sudbury for your hard work and dedication throughout the last several months in dealing with the Fire and Paramedic Optimization Plan. We would also like to thank the citizens of Sudbury for raising their voices in support of the volunteer firefighters. City council’s vote against the plan on April 26 presents a milestone for Local 920 members. Our collective goal was to draw attention to the plan, raise concerns, and make sure the public had the opportunity to attend the town meetings and provide feedback. In this we were very successful. The petition put forth by Shayne Smith was also a major focal point. A grand total of 5,840 signatures were collected by you with the support of local businesses, friends, and family. These signatures were presented to city council by Counsellor Vagnini on Tuesday night and were, according to Mayor Bigger, a key factor in Wednesday night’s decision. Thank you to everyone for helping make this petition the remarkable success that it was! At this time, we also look to the future and understand that there will be new challenges that must be faced positively and productively. In doing so, we can best demonstrate our commitment to the service we worked so hard to protect. We look forward to working together.
