Locals Local 306 Newsletters By Irma Friesen, EA, steward, Local 306 member, and member of the CLAC National Board When you think of changing your work location, is it overwhelming? I took the leap in 2016. I had worked at Bothwell School, a five-minute drive from home, for 21 years. I was part of a small, tight-knit school. I knew my place and I was happy. In fall 2015, I realized I needed change. I know many people in similar situations who have chosen not to make a change and stayed unhappy, or who were forced to change and despite being afraid, were okay in the end. So when the job postings came out in May 2016, I stepped out of my comfortable place, jumped at the chance for change, and applied. I can honestly say that I never felt I made the wrong choice. I got my transfer. Fast forward to September when I arrived at the new school and was welcomed and made to feel like part of the team by my fellow EAs, teachers, and students. Looking back, I would describe my transfer as starting over . . . but with experience!
