Supporting Women in the Trades (SWiT)

Women are underrepresented in the construction skilled trades. SWiT aims to change that

CLAC is a champion of Supporting Women in the Trades (SWiT), an organization that aims to increase the number of women apprentices, journeypersons, and supervisors and to create respectful and welcoming workplaces for all through meaningful policy and education. Women are underrepresented in proportion to the total number of skilled trades workers in construction.

SWiT is a national initiative led by the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum, a national, nonprofit organization. Manitoba will host the 2023 SWiT Conference from June 10-12 in Winnipeg.

The 2023 SWiT conference will bring together Canada’s tradeswomen and their allies including employers, labour representatives, government, educators, community partners, and experts in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Delegates will share experiences, learn strategies, gain skills, and connect with resources to bring back and implement in their workplaces. CLAC delegations from many provinces will be in Winnipeg to participate in this conference.
