Tuesday, April 4, 2023 Strong Wage Gains for O’Connor Electric Employees Locals Local 6 Ratifications Sectors Construction Kitchener, ON—Contract renewal has been secured for the 350 electricians and electrical apprentices of O’Connor Electric providing them with strong wage gains. The employees voted 86 percent in favour of the settlement negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 6. New terms take effect April 1, 2023, and continue until March 31, 2026. The three-year contract provides journeypersons with total value increases of 15.4 percent or $8.45 per hour. Along with solid hourly pay increases each year over the term, the new agreement also provides for improved coverage for life and vision benefits and improved reimbursement for travel pay. Equally important were special improvements and supports for apprentices. “The employees of O’Connor Electric work hard every day building infrastructure vital to Ontario,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC representative. “This new contract recognizes their worth and provides employees and their families with secure and stable income for both their present needs as well as the future.” O’Connor Electric employees work on projects throughout south, central, and eastern Ontario. Large warehousing and retail space forms a major portion of projects including distribution centres for Amazon and retail stores for Walmart and Farm Boy.
