Strong Settlement for Borea Construction Employees
Cambridge, ON—Contract renewal has been secured for the employees of Borea Construction ULC. The settlement was negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. New terms are effective immediately.
This three-year collective agreement is a strong incentive to rebuild Borea Construction’s workforce in Ontario. Many changes in language and structure of the Ontario agreement have been implemented to establish an overall standard that will be applicable to the workforce across Canada. Over the life of the contract, entry workers in the solar and battery sector will see an increase of 17 percent in their base hourly wage rate. Along with annual wage improvements, all employees receive increased employer contributions to their pension. A national standard for healthcare benefits coverage has also been adopted, making it possible for employees to maintain consistent coverage when working in different provinces.
“Local 53 is pleased to deliver this strong settlement,” says Marco Mueller, CLAC representative. “For the past three years, Borea has had no construction projects in Ontario. We are excited for them to return, continuing to build projects in the renewable energy sector.
“We are confident this agreement will draw the workforce Borea needs and reward the members who stay. The terms provide security and compensation for our members—excellent wages, strong healthcare benefits, and a solid pension plan they can trust.”
