Strong Gains for Jasper Constructors Employees

Cambridge, ON—Employees of Jasper Constructors Ltd. ratified a three-year collective agreement providing immediate and yearly wage increases and many other gains.

Over 40 employees of the company are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 52. The union has represented them since 2007. While the collective agreement is effective April 1, 2023, the terms and conditions were implemented as of February 5, 2023.

The new contract provides total value increases of 18.4 percent over the term. Along with an immediate eight percent increase in hourly pay, the agreement provides additional wage increases in 2024 and 2025, improved vacation pay, increased employer contributions to employees’ pension plan, and the introduction of paid sick days. Improved language and increased compensation for travel and parking reimbursement were secured, as well as better provisions surrounding scheduled hours of work and premium pay for overtime. The settlement also defines the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 as an additional statutory holiday observed under the collective agreement.

“Local 52 is pleased to provide this strong settlement for our members,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC representative. “With inflation, the union bargaining committee prioritized solid wage increases, and management stepped up to meet that issue. We are pleased that the contract provides security for our members and their families. It provides excellent wages and a strong healthcare benefits plan for the present as well as a solid pension plan they can trust for the future.”
