Thursday, November 5, 2020 Steward Profile: Meet Ryan Shand Newsletters Manitoba Local 152 Ryan is a Local 152 member and steward who has been in the trades for 20 years, working in Manitoba and Alberta. He has his Red Seal certificate in plumbing (2005) and his class B gas-fitting license (2004). He has experience managing large- and medium-sized crews (5-30), installation and maintenance of plumbing systems/chilled water and heating systems, installation of gas lines, and steam and condensate systems. Ryan has worked on numerous commercial projects including Pan-Am Pool Heating renovations, Tache Hall renovations, Manitoba Hydro high voltage test facility, Health Science Centre adult emergency, Buhler Cancer Care addition, and Rockyview General Hospital (Calgary). In the past, he has been an active safety committee member ensuring and promoting safe work practices so all workers can return to their families at the end of the day. His approach to being a steward is to mediate productive and safe work practices that help meet project goals, and inform his fellow members of their rights under the collective agreement. Ryan was born and raised in St-Adolphe, Manitoba. He is fluent in English and French and is of Métis heritage. He is a family man and with his wife, Zoe, are raising their son, Zev. Ryan is well-known for being a diehard Maple Leafs fan. When not watching his beloved team, you can find him playing pick-up hockey, skijoring with his husky-shepherd, golfing, and spending time with his family.
