Steady Wage Increases for Jasper Constructors Employees

Langley, BC—Employees of Jasper Constructors Ltd. voted 90 percent in favour of ratifying a new five-year collective agreement providing them with steady wage increases over the term.

The employees are represented by Construction and Allied Workers Union, CLAC Local 68. Over 190 union members are employed by Jasper including carpenters, labourers, cement finishers, equipment operators, surveyors, and traffic control persons.

Employees’ wages will increase by 2.5 percent in the first year of the agreement and two percent each year for the following four years. New, higher-paid classifications were also added.

Other gains made with the new contract include employer facilitation of employees’ voluntary RSP contributions and an increase in paid break time to 30 minutes.

“Our bargaining committee felt this was a very positive result, and the membership agreed, as evidenced by the very strong vote in favour of ratifying the agreement,” says Chas Herrod, CLAC representative. “This contract provides our members and their employer with the long term security they were looking for. It’s definitely a win-win agreement for both sides.”

Jasper works on commercial, infrastructure, light industrial, and civil construction projects. Current and recent projects include the Victoria waste water treatment plant, Campbell River hospital, Parkview Towers high rise, various Skytrain stations, New Westminster Secondary School, Willowbrook Mall in Langley, Vancouver International Airport, and Salton pedestrian bridge in Abbotsford.
