St. Andrews Residence Workers Unanimously Ratify New Contract with Wage and Benefits Gains

CHATHAM, ON—Health care workers at St. Andrew’s Residence, a retirement home in Chatham, Ontario, unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement delivering wage increases, improved benefits, and enhanced workplace premiums.

The employees are represented by Southwestern Ontario Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303, which has represented the organization’s workforce since 2002.

The 42-member group, including unregulated care providers (UCPs), personal support workers (PSWs), health care aides, dietary staff, housekeeping and laundry aides, cooks, and maintenance staff, secured wage increases of 3.5 percent in each of the first two years and three percent in the third year of the agreement, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028.

The agreement also includes improvements to vision and counselling benefits, increased premiums in lieu of benefits, double time for overtime worked on paid holidays, and the introduction of a new UCP premium. Additional updates include improved paid holiday language.

“Our members show a great deal of care and commitment in the work they do every day,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. “This agreement recognizes that dedication by delivering improvements that help them feel supported and valued in their roles.”
