SOF Members Do Their Part to Reduce Food Waste

Save-On-Foods members are involved in the Loop Program at their stores

The program, a partnership with Loop Resource, provides daily pick up of food that would otherwise be unsellable and thrown away.

The Loop Program diverts unused food away from landfills to either the food bank (if it is safe for human consumption), to farm animals, or to sustainable food production and energy. It’s “a simple, sustainable way to do the right thing for the environment while helping strengthen our communities,” according to Loop Resource’s website.

Through Save-On-Foods’ partnership with Loop in Alberta, over 750 small family farms benefit directly and indirectly from participation in the program.
