Monday, June 30, 2025 Skilled Trades Ontario Offers Exam Accommodations Newsletters Construction Are you an apprentice getting ready to write your qualifying exam through Skilled Trades Ontario (STO)? If you need accommodations like extra time, a separate room, or other supports to help you do your best, there is a specific process you must follow. Step 1: Pay the Exam Fee and Get Your Authorization to Test Letter Before you can ask for exam accommodations, you must first pay your exam fee to Skilled Trades Ontario. After your payment is processed, STO will email you your Authorization to Test letter. This letter includes your eligibility number, which is a key piece of information you’ll need to request accommodations. Step 2: Don’t Schedule Your Exam Yet! It’s important that you do not schedule your exam until your accommodation request has been approved. If you book your exam without approval, your request will not be processed, and you may be denied accommodations on test day. Step 3: Submit Your Request for Accommodations To request accommodations, follow these steps: Download and complete this Exam Accommodation Request Form available through Skilled Trades Ontario. Include supporting documentation with your form. This could be: A signed note from a medical professional explaining why you need specific accommodations A personal statement from a learning specialist Any other documents that show proof and explain why you need the support. Email your completed form and documents to: accommodations@skilledtradesontario.ca Make sure to type “URGENT” in the subject line or mark your email as high priority to get a faster response. Step 4: Wait for a Reply (but follow up if needed) Skilled Trades Ontario usually replies in two to seven business days after you submit your request. If you haven’t heard back after a week, try resending the request to the same email address or call Skilled Trades Ontario at 1-855-299-0028 to check on the status of your request. Step 5: Once Approved, Schedule Your Exam After your request has been approved, you can then go ahead and book your exam with any approved accommodations in place. More information on booking your exam can be found at Exam scheduling - Skilled Trades Ontario. If you want to learn more about the specific accommodations that are available, visit Prometric’s website (Prometric is the company that delivers the exams for STO). If you have questions or need help at any step, the CLAC Apprenticeship team is here to support you. Good luck —you’ve got this!
