Thursday, May 17, 2018 Site C Update: Full Steam Ahead! Newsletters The challenges of 2017 are now behind us. The BCUC review caused a significant amount of uncertainty, and the geological disruptions were serious obstacles, but the site has been crewing up nicely since January. There will be over 1,000 Local 68 members on site as work on the newly added compacted concrete scope begins this spring. Although we have had a long winter, the crushers have been operating nonstop now for over a month in anticipation of laying as much concrete as possible in the spring and summer. It’s been a great couple of months as members who were laid off during the slow down in November have been reunited with their friends and crews, not to mention (for many) their machines. This year has already been a busy one, with BC Hydro adding more to the existing scope for PRHP, and there’s no sign that things will slow down at all. The main civil works portion that PRHP is currently working on will be going strong until 2024—and with the challenges of last year in the rear-view mirror, we are heading full steam ahead into what lies in front of us.
