Friday, November 2, 2018 Site C: Major Project Update Newsletters It was a long year of hard bargaining, but like all good things, it was worth the wait. After the results of the 2018 wage review arbitration award, PRHP employees saw a retroactive increase of 2.6% to their base wages back to January, as well as an increase of 3.6% in lieu of the previous daily travel pay. This 6.2% increase for all employees has brought the top trade rates to $40.68 an hour, with the top operator rate sitting nicely at $37.52. But that’s not all. More increases are on the way in January 2019 (2.25%) and January 2020 (2.25%). With wages squared away for the next couple years, our PRHP members are busy putting the final touches on the roller compacted concrete season, which has seen people working flat-out since the spring. They have been flying past project milestones in concrete placement, including an incredible record 7,000 m3 in a 24-hour span! The winter is primed to be a much livelier time than we experienced last year, as the seasonal layoffs are slated to be less prevalent with the project’s certainty not in question. This is great news for our members who have several years left of work to complete this dam.
